Top 10 most popular coffee drinks in America
We did market research and asked hundreds of people what they prefer to drink. Below you will find the result of the 10 most popular drinks in America.
Espresso
Not only in the US, Espresso is the most popular coffee. People worldwide enjoy this delicious, strong shot of coffee. Espresso is prepared by forcing hot water under high pressure through super finely ground, tamped coffee beans. Due to the special preparation process, a layer of dark and highly concentrated coffee remains. Espresso is therefore used as the basis for many other delicious types of coffee beverages, such as Cappuccino, Cafe Latte, Americano, Cafe Mocha and many more mouth-watering drinks.
Cappuccino
Cappuccino is originally an Italian beverage and is mainly drunk by the Italians in the morning during breakfast. It is very popular because of the airy foam layer and the creamy taste that makes it easy to drink. The basic ingredients of the drink include espresso, hot milk and milk foam. But other additives are also used, such as syrups, cocoa powder, spices or cream instead of milk. Compared to Italians, Cappuccino is drunk throughout the day in America.
Latté
A Caffè Latte, also called Latte, is a delicious drink that is basically made with espresso. It’s also super popular! The word Caffe Latte means ‘coffee milk’ in Italian. The ratio for making a Caffè Latte is 1/3 coffee and 2/3 steamed milk. Compared to a Cappuccino, the Latte contains more milk and a small layer of milk foam. For the novice coffee drinker, this is an ideal drink to get acquainted with coffee flavors in an accessible way. The caffeine content becomes less strong because it is diluted with steamed milk. This way you don’t immediately taste the strong notes of the coffee, but you do experience its taste. It is therefore accessible and also super tasty to drink.
Macchiato
A Macchiato is an espresso with a dash of milk foam. It retains the strong espresso taste, with a hint of creaminess from the milk foam added. While the milk is being prepared, the top foam layer is poured over the espresso. Do you love the full flavor of an espresso? but do you also like it when the taste is a bit milder? Then a Macchiato is the perfect solution!
Americano
The Americano is a popular coffee drink in America. According to many, the name ‘Americano’ originated during WWII when Americans were stationed in Italy. The coffee was much stronger than the soldiers were used to. Adding water to the espresso gave the coffee a less strong and bitter taste. And also a finer feel to their hometown America. The ratio of Espresso and water is 1/3 Espresso and 2/3 water.

Cold Brew Coffee
Cold brew coffee has grown in popularity in recent years. This brewing method does not require a heat source to prepare the coffee. You just need cold water and a little patience! Isn’t it wonderful to drink a nice cup of coffee on a hot day that cools you down!
But beware, the preparation method is different from that of Iced coffee, where you pour hot coffee over ice cubes. With Cold brew coffee method, cold water (maximum room temperature) is poured over ground coffee. Then it is withdrawn for about fourteen to twelve hours in the fridge. This process takes longer so that all the flavors are extracted from the coffee. The most important thing is that no hot water is used in the process. The taste of this coffee is refreshing, softer and sweeter than a regular coffee. And it’s well worth the wait!
Frappucino / Frappe
A Frappuccino is the perfect drink for coffee lovers and sweet-toothed people looking to cool down! It is a drink that is served cold and is so sweet that the enamel almost jumps off your teeth as soon as you see the drink! It is based on an ice Cappuccino, often with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream added. You can also compare it to a milkshake. The milk, coffee and ice cubes (and possibly vanilla ice cream) are ground in a blender, after which you can garnish with, for example, whipped cream and syrup. No wonder this drink is so popular!
Affogato
Affogato means ‘drowned’ in Italian. And that’s what this delicious coffee drink does. The drink is seen as both a drink and a dessert. To prepare the Affogato you scoop a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a cup and top it with hot espresso. By pouring the heat over the cold, the scoop of ice cream “drowns” in the espresso. The bitter taste of espresso and creamy taste of ice cream mixed together create a true taste party in your mouth! The ice cream flavors that are used can vary from whipped cream ice cream, cinnamon ice cream or, for example, stracciatella. It’s just what you like! The possibilities are endless!
Caffè Mocha
The Caffè Mocha, also called “Mocha” or “Mocha Latte”. The perfect blend of espresso, steamed milk and chocolate in one! No wonder that this drink is also very popular among Americans. The Mocha is actually a Latte to which cocoa powder or chocolate syrup has been added. The composition is mainly 1/3 espresso, 1/3 cocoa and 1/3 hot milk. Are you a fan of all the ingredients that can be found in this coffee mix? Then it is definitely worth trying!
Café Au Lait
The popular Cafe Au Lait coffee drink originated in France is similar to a Latte. The main difference is that the coffee is differently prepared in the base, namely with filter coffee or a cafetiere. A Latte is basically prepared with an espresso. The milk is steamed with a different amount added. This partly depends on your preference in terms of coffee strength. In general, the ratio is 60% coffee, 35% steamed milk and 5% milk foam. Traditionally, there is no milk foam on top, but there are coffee shops that serve this with a thin layer. Are you a big fan of this coffee drink? Don’t forget to dip your croissant in your cup like a real Frenchman!
Conclusion
Americans have a wide range of interests when it comes to the most popular coffee drinks in America. Drinking coffee varies from the real Espresso enthusiasts who are looking for the right balance between sour, sweet and bitter taste of the Espresso. To a wide variety of coffee lovers who enjoy coffee with creamy milk, frothed milk, sweet syrups, whipped cream and ice cream. The possibilities are truly endless!
